Speechless.

Check out Lady Gaga's performance of "Speechless." Thank you, LG, for actually singing live unlike so many "singers" these days.

PS: That's one hell of a hair bow, no?

I Die!

Oh my gawd. Purple, glittery pumps. I freaking die.

A Wedding At Tiffany's.

How lovely is this "Breakfast at Tiffany's" inspired wedding?

The "Tiffany blue" and pale pink combination, the tea roses, over-
sized sunglasses, and vintage cocktail attire are fantastic. Bubbly
champagne
would definitely be the drink of choice! It's so chic!

Simply beautiful!

Christmas Poll.

Hi dolls! Merry (early) Christmas! This will probably be my last post for the next few days . Truth be told, I’ll probably be gorging myself of buckeyes (it’s an Ohio thing, ok? Side note: I am not from Ohio), hot chocolate and meat of some sort that my dad will practically force-feed us. Not that I resist much. In short, it’s likely that I will be in a food coma. If I need somebody to resuscitate me, I’ll try Tweet it before I pass out. Deal?

But before I leave, let’s take a little poll. What intangible gift would you like most for 2010?

A. The U.S. recession to end.
B. Peace in the Middle East.
C. To lose those 'last 10 pounds' by eating Ho-Hos and Twinkies.
D. Other. Please explain.

SATC Round 2!

Sex and the City 2 in HD

Trailer Park | MySpace Video

Oh-em-gee! The Sex and the City 2 trailer finally hit the internet! My thoughts: 1) I died over the first movie so I'm pretty stoked about round dos. 2) Is Carrie rocking a turban? I mean, I guess it was just a matter of time. 3) "Empire State of Mind" was way too obvious a choice for the music. 4) The trailer doesn't exactly tell me what the movie is about. But whatev, I'm excited!

Name Switch-A-Roo.

So, tell me what you think of this... Beyonce and Jay-Z, who
tied the knot in 2008, recently decided to take each others names.
Jay-Z (real name Shawn Carter) will now be called Shawn Knowles-
Carter
, and Beyonce will be called Beyonce Knowles-Carter."
Isn't that great? I love this idea. What do you think?

The End of a Decade.

The decade is nearly over. It’s cliché, but I can hardly believe how the time has flied. I remember being nervous about Y2K just moments (er, years) ago.

A lot has come out of the last decade; iPods, Wikipedia, blogging, the first black president, the death of Michael Jackson, the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Saddam Hussein was caught and executed, Enron implodes, Americans become fascinated with celebrities, Martha Stewart goes to prison (one of many celebs who donned the orange jumpsuit), social media sites like Facebook/ MySpace/Twitter explode, Boston Red Sox win the World Series, the housing bubble bursts, GM goes bankrupt, Americans face a recession…. and so much more!

What is memorable to you about the last decade?

Snow Storm Date Night.

Andrew and I scoped out National Harbor this weekend and made a stop
at Ketchup for dinner. We ordered the "Threesome," which was three different
types of french fries and six types of ketchup. Pretty amazing. The other food
was decent, but the atmosphere and signature fries-ketchup combo were killer.

The next stop was "ICE" at Gaylord National. Inside was kept at a toasty 9
degrees, so they give you huge coats for the exhibit. We looked like puffy smurfs.

The exhibit was really beautiful. Essentially, every possibly Christmas
scene or character was carved out of ice. It was really spectacular.

The rest of the weekend was spent playing Monopoly, shoveling snow, doing
donuts in parking lots, sleeping in, watching movies and even a bit of shopping
somehow. Despite all the snow-shoveling and even a flat tire on 66, it was a pretty
mellow and fun weekend. Getting snowed in isn't so bad after all.

Christmas Wish List.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, makes me laugh like Will & Grace.
I am missing the last few seasons and this needs to change stat!

I have my heart set on a bib necklace. They're perfect with
a plain shirt and jeans. If you know me, more is always more!

Over-the-knee boots are so hot! Yes, please!

I have been craving a (faux) leather motorcycle jacket for quite some time. Throw
it over a dressy-dress, throw it over an edgy t-shirt; whatever! It's so versatile!

Let's hope Santa reads my wish list!

Sick.

I seem to have the flu or some type of virus going around.
I've got to say, I haven't been this sick in awhile. I've got the whole
shebang; fever, chills, body aches, cough, and congestion!

My boyfriend is coming over the make me dinner, which is so
sweet. His thoughtfulness makes me feel better already.
What makes you feel better when you are sick?

"Tiger is More of a Cheat-ah!"

Unless you have been living under a rock for the last week, you've heard about Tiger Woods' car accident and scandalous affairs. Turns out that Tiger has been a busy boy lately; jumping from city to city with various women at his beck and call (meanwhile his wife was pregnant). Now that the affairs are public knowledge, questions about Tiger and Elin's prenuptial agreement are called into question. The original prenup states that after 10 years of marriage Elin gets $20 million. Their prenup has now been revised and states that if Elin stays with Tiger she will immediately receive $5 million. In addition, it states that if Elin stays in the marriage for an addition 7 years that she will receive another $55 million. This agreement will, of course, include a nondisclosure agreement that will keep Elin quiet. Where's the fun in that?

But really, Tiger sounded awfully scared in his voicemail to his mistress. Was he scared of losing his wife or losing his money? And while I am all in favor or prenuptial agreements in certain situations, it's awfully sad that nowadays marriages are more like business transactions rather than matters of the heart. If I were Elin I would walk. Immediately. No amount of money would make me stay with such a pathetic excuse for a husband, even $80 million. Chances are if she leaves the marriage she will still receive a large amount of money, considering the divorce's circumstances.

What do you think? Should she stay for $80 million or walk? Is Tiger scared to lose his wife or his money?

Giving Thanks.

I am so thankful for all the love and kindness within people,
despite these difficult and trying times. My only wish is that people were this
kind every day of the year, myself included. What are you thankful for?

Eatonville.

I had the pleasure of eating at Eatonville in DC recently before a concert nearby at the 9:30 Club. I had heard good things about this new restaurant and was eager to try its Southern fare.

My first impression of Eatonville is the beautiful, quirky decor. The space itself is very large, but not overwhelming. Large, colorful murals decorate the walls and extravagant chandeliers hang from the ceilings.

Once seated you can't help but sit for a few minutes to take in the vibrant, unique atmosphere. Out waiter, Adam, arrived to take our drink orders and make several recommendations. My often indecisive boyfriend was unsure about which beer to order after his favorite was out of stock (bummer), so our waiter brought out two large tastings of beer. The chosen beer was a maple ale which tasted like, no joke, toasted marsh-mellows. It was heaven, and this is coming from a non-beer drinker. I ordered a Southern peach tea, which was heaven as well. The drink was perfectly mixed, with a tasty combination of peach whiskey, tea and lemonade.

For our meal I chose the crispy chicken, mashed potatoes and collard greens. My boyfriend, a tad reluctant once he found out it was a meatless dish, ordered the mushroom loaf, mashed potatoes and crispy brussel sprouts.

Our meal was very tasty. The crispy chicken was scrumptious, however both of our mashed potatoes were lackluster. His mushroom loaf (much like meatloaf) was delicious, with a spicy, tomato-based sauce on top. Overall, our meal was very good. My only complaint would be that the mashed potatoes were oddly plain, and the service was a bit on the slow side. Needless to say, we didn't seem to mind too much as our conversation, amazing drinks and the lively atmosphere were enough to keep us happy and entertained. I would highly recommend this U Street area restaurant for anybody with an affinity for Southern food and friendly service.

Fashionably Twitter.

Sassybella has created an fabulous, comprehensive list of all things model/designer/celeb/fashion related on Twitter. If you're a-tweetin' like I am then check it out here!

I Heart Michelle.

I am a huge fan of Michelle Obama. She is so classy, articulate and intelligent and such a positive role model for women. Her advice to young women is invaluable, particularly about matters of the heart.

"Cute’s good. But cute only lasts for so long, and then it’s, Who are you as a person? That’s the advice I would give to women: Don’t look at the bankbook or the title. Look at the heart. Look at the soul. Look at how the guy treats his mother and what he says about women. How he acts with children he doesn’t know. And, more important, how does he treat you? When you’re dating a man, you should always feel good. You should never feel less than. You should never doubt yourself. You shouldn’t be in a relationship with somebody who doesn’t make you completely happy and make you feel whole. And if you’re in that relationship and you’re dating, then my advice is, don’t get married.”

Amen.

Tall Enough?

I love this. It doesn't hurt that the guy in this video is ridiculously cute (I love his glasses).

My Kind Of Pumpkin!

I didn't carve or decorate a pumpkin this year, but if I did I
would definitely have decorated it like these insanely cute pumpkins.
What can I say? I have quite an affinity for glitter and pomp!

La Lohan Is A Hot Mess. Still.

We all know that Lindsay Lohan is a hot mess. And just when you think it can't get any worse, promotional pictures from her leggings line (major ugh) surface.

Hold the phone. Where is Lindsay's publicist? Because he/she needs to be fired STAT. If La Lohan insists on terrorizing the public with her leggings line, she could at least package them in a more attractive way. If the promo pictures are any indication of the line, then shall I expect them to be cheap and whoreish looking? Although they may look cheap, they will actually retail for over $100. $100. For leggings.

If I need a pair of cheap-looking leggings, I'll be sure to pick them up at Forever21 for $6.99 like every other twenty-something girl. K, thanks.

Another Reason I Love Ellen (and Taylor Swift)!

Check out this hilarious clip of Ellen pranking Taylor Swift for her Halloween show. It definitely brings on the laughs!

The Model Debate.

Brigitte, one of Germany's most popular women's magazines will ban professional models, opting for 'real life' women, according to Guardian's website.

"From 2010 we will not work with professional models any more," said Andreas Lebert, editor-in-chief, adding that he was "fed up" with having to retouch pictures of underweight models who bore no resemblance to ordinary women. "For years we've had to use Photoshop to fatten the girls up," he said.

There has been so much chatter recently regarding models, including the "Ralph Lauren incident" where a horrendous picture of a model whose waist practically vanished was released to the public. Interestingly enough, that same model was apparently fired for being too fat. Bear in mind this 5'10 inch model weighed in at about 120 pounds. Oh, and she's gorgeous.

While it's certainly sad to hear about incidents like this, at least it is shining a light on the ridiculous standards that companies like Ralph Lauren are setting. It seems like Brigitte magazine's is one step in the right direction!

Halloween Wrap-Up.

Halloween was such a blast this year. What is more fun than
dressing up? My boyfriend and I dressed up as T-Pain and Lady
Gaga. Quite the superstar couple for the night, if I do say so myself!

Halloween Plans.

What are your Halloween plans this year?

I haven't nailed down my Halloween-night plans quite yet, but I will surely end up in D.C. with the rest of the area's 20-somethings. I am pretty excited about my costume. Hint: It includes a blond wig, a hair bow and no pants. All I need now is my paparazzi....

Happy Halloween, dolls!

Don't Call It A Comeback!

How are we feeling about Rihanna's new 'comeback single?' I must admit, I am a bit disappointed. Ok, a lot. First of all, I was expecting something a bit more dance-y. And second of all, I was expecting something sort of amazing. I love RiRi but this song is a lackluster, especially for being the first song that's been released since her incident. Maybe it will grow on me?

What do you think? Comeback worthy? Snoozefest?

Girls Night!

My girl friend, Amy, I went went to Shecky's Girls Night Out a few
nights ago and had a fabulous time. Haven't been? Well, it's a shopping event
that happens twice a year in DC. Think: Brightly colored cocktails served by
cute bartenders, rows of vendors selling beautiful jewelry, bags and other
tempting accessories
, and a goody bag full of every product sample you can
possibly think of! Shopping and cocktails... oh boy! It's trouble, let me tell you!

Afterwards, Amy and I made an impromptu trip to Equinox a few blocks away
for bite to eat. I was very impressed with our meal, which included a cauliflower-
curry soup with a crab pastry, grilled boneless pork over chanterelle mushrooms
with a squash puree and a panna cotta with apples and biscotti for desert. Oh, and
a big glass of chardonnay. Our server suggested the wine and it was spot-on.

Cauliflower-curry soup with crab pastry.

Panna cotta with apples and biscotti.

Needless to say, it was a great night!

MIA!

Hi dolls. I know, I know... I've been a bit MIA recently. It's been a very hectic few weeks and I promise to get my act together. Here are some updates:

- I'm looking for a new chair for my living room. Something chic and modern like this, minus the expensive price tag. Any suggestions?

-How cool is this wall art my friend, Marley, created? She's so talented!

-I've got two new fabulous room-mates. Welcome, kiddies!

-Tomorrow is my birthday (eek)! I celebrated with my friends this weekend and had a nice dinner with my family today. Thank you to all my wonderful, loving friends and family!

Goodnight and sweat dreams. Look for more posts this week!

Controversial?

As somebody who works at a magazine, I understand the
importance of having a good cover. Sure, what makes a cover
"good" is different for everybody, but most people agree that it
needs to be eye-catching. With Washingtonian's most recent cover
making a stir, I found this blog about controversial magazine covers
to be pretty interesting. Just think, at one point in time the first black
Playboy model was quite controversial. Check it out here.

Heavenly Dresses.

I am dying over these J. Mendel dresses. They are just so gorg.
They are so feminine and soft, yet with very modern lines.
Click here for a larger view. I am officially obsessed.

Least Surprising News Of The Week!

The word is out that Avril Lavigne has dumped her "Sk8ter Boi," Deryck Whibley of Sum 41. They have been married about three years. Word on the street is that their marriage has been on rocky-rocks for awhile now.

So tell me this, why do "celebrity" (using that term loosely) marriages seem to fizzle so quickly? First Tom and Nicole, then Reese and Ryan and now everybody. It's too much to handle!

PS: Ok Avril, you're a single woman now. Great. Let's get a fresh start and maybe hire a stylist? I am begging you.

PPS: Your new line of 'punk clothing' is just so lovely.

Meltdown Mania.

This week has just been full of celebrity meltdowns. From Kanye West's classy outburst at the VMAs to Bruce Willis' meltdown towards a fan at a VIP after-party to Serena Williams telling the judge that she'd like to shove her tennis ball down his you-know-what. Something must be in Hollywood's water this week, right?! Yea, right.

Kanye Drama at VMAs!

Dear Kanye West,

You are seriously a prick. I don't care how amazing the "Single Ladies" video was (it was smokin' hot), you don't interrupt somebody who is accepting an award. Please shut your mouth.

Love,

Veronica

PS: The video of Kanye's shenanigans has been taken off YouTube. The above video is of his public apology. Boo hoo.

Whitney's Back!

I have been a big fan of Whitney Houston since I was, literally, 7 years old. "The Bodyguard" soundtrack was the first cassette tape I ever bought and Whitney's very first album was my first album as well (along side Madonna's "Like A Virgin" CD; man, I had good taste). Needless to say, I am thrilled that Whitney is back - sober, beautiful and ready to take the stage again. How delicious and juicy does Oprah's interview with Whitney look? So juicy that Oprah has even said that this is her best interview to date. Check it out on Monday's Oprah. You know I'll be watching the late taping Monday night.

I love Kathy Griffin for many reasons, mainly the fact that she wore a reverse mullet wig for this spoof. Amazing. “Wah, wah, wah. Here, drink the tears of fame.”

New Boot(ies).

The cooler weather has got me thinking about fall fashion. I have a laundry list of things I'm eying for the cooler months, but new boots were definitely at the top of my list.

I found these beauties at DSW for under $50. Their platform makes them fairly comfortable too.

I got a fantastic structured 'boyfriend blazer' the other day from a consignment store and am now on the hunt for a really sexy leather jacket to wear over...well, anything!

What is on your wish list for this fall?

Labor Day Weekend Plans.

Hi dolls! Oh man, am I happy there's a three-day weekend coming up for Labor Day! What are your Labor Day weekend plans?

I'll be jetting (er, driving/battling terrible traffic) to Charlottesville, Virginia for a weekend at a B&B and a day trip to three vineyards with unlimited (gulp!) tastings. Oh mercy, mama's going to enjoy some vino this weekend! Have a fab (and wine-filled) weekend!

Restaurant Week Update.

I dined at Vermilion in Old Town last week for Restaurant Week and
had a really nice meal (and great company). I chose the fixed three-course
menu that started with their summer tomato gazpacho. It was very
refreshing, with hints of watermelon, goat cheese and dill.

For my main course I had the filet with sweet beets, and their
version of onion rings which were so light and airy.

I finished the meal with their "Vermilion PB&J." It had classic PB&J flavors,
chocolate and the best hazelnut rice crisp for that unexpected crunch.

Overall, my meal experience was great. Service was attentive but not
overbearing, decor warm with lots of dim light, red velvet, intimate
booths and tasty food. Chef Anthony Chittum definitely delivered.

"I've Got Soul But I'm Not A Soldier!"

I was lucky enough to see The Killers last night.

Talk about an amazing, high-energy performance.

I also went to Virgin Freefest this weekend; with performances
by Wale, Blink 182, Weezer, Public Enemy and many others.
The atmosphere was so fun and laid-back, including ping pong,
photo booths, free Converse sneakers, and Richard Branson
sky-diving onto the roof of Merriweather Post Pavilion. No joke.

I'm hoping to see Lady Gaga in a few weeks. Nothing beats live music!
