Spoiled Rotten.

Remember how I was blogging about wanting a really
nice amethyst ring recently-ish? Well, I got one with white
gold and diamonds. I am a spoiled (and happy) little girl.

NYE Kiss?

What are your New Year's Eve plans? This year I am super excited to report that I'm attending "Big Night DC" at the Gaylord National Hotel and Resort. The last few New Year's Eves have been a bit low-key for me, so I'm excited to get all glam'ed up with my honey and lots about ten friends.

I'm wearing this metallic-gold dress, gold shoes, over-sized gold and black jewelry, a black satin jacket for the cold walk (similar to this), and of course my dashing boyfriend by my side in his matching black and gold.

What are your plans? Champagne and fireworks? House party? Hotel party?

Will you have a NYE kiss?

Womanizer.

It seems like everybody is covering music these days. None the less, here's an excellent (and very different) cover of Britney Spear's Womanizer by the French singer Sliimy (I know I'm really on a French kick lately).

Avec amour,

Veronica

Early Winter.

In case you haven't heard, No Doubt is back in the studio making new music. You cannot imagine how excited I was when I heard this. Really excited as they are one of my all-time favorite bands. In honor of the new, amazing music to come, here's one of my favorite Gwen Stefani songs, Early Winter. I thought about posting a great No Doubt video, but frankly most of their videos were pretty damn popular and I wanted to post a lesser known No Doubt/Gwen song. The song's lyrics are probably my favorite part. "4 In the Morning" is pretty too.

"You, you know how to get me so low
My heart had a crash when we spoke
I can't fix what you broke."

Miss Dior Cherie.

I saw this commercial for Miss Dior Cherie (directed by Sofia Coppola, naturally) on television the other day and was immediately captivated and delighted. The light pastel colors, the whimsical French music, the gorgeous Parisian girl with the long legs and high cheek bones, her bright yellow retro sunglasses, the bouquets of fresh flowers, and most importantly the unbelievable city of Paris.

Ah, to be French and fabulous. Le sigh!

Merry Christmas!

"Let us pray for mutual understanding, that hearts will be opened, so that borders can be opened," said Pope Benedict XVI delivered last night at his midnight mass in St. Peter's Basilica (check out my pictures of one of the most gorgeous churches you will ever see) according to Time magazine.

I may not always agree with the Pope, but those are definitely words I can stand behind.

Let's hope for peace, but let it start with us!

Merry Christmas, everyone.

Snowball Fight!

So, this is kind of hilarious.

The ever-so-passionate group, PETA, has an interactive website where you can throw snowballs at The Trolsen Twins, Madonna, and other fur-loving celebs.

Too funny.

Check it out here for a giggle.

Vogue (ish).

So, this is a pretty narcissistic but what the hell.
I'm working on a little project and need a decent
picture of myself. Which one would you choose?
(Pictures compliments of Marley).

Here we go...

1, 2, 3 or 4?

Gloves, Anyone?

I've been online shopping for a sexy little pair of leather
gloves. Something super short and fashion forward. I
recently stumbled upon this website (of course it's
European). Let's take a moment to inspect.

Very kitten-with-a-whip.

These say, "I drink vodka on the rocks."

These say, "I am way cooler than you."

Oh, heavens! If only they weren't $130+
in US dollars! Should I be bad?

Absolutely Disgusting.

The following story absolutely disgusts me. Brace yourself.

CNN is reporting that a Saudi judge has recently refused to annul a marriage between an 8-year old girl and a 47-year old man (other sources are saying 58, even worse). The child's father married the two to, get this, settle his debts. The judge asked the man to not, ahem, consummate the marriage until the girl reaches puberty. Yea, ok.

The judge, also in his infinite wisdom, ruled that when the girl reaches puberty, she will have the right to request a divorce by filing a petition with the court.

Nothing like raping children in the name of God.

Prom-Themed Wedding?

A prom-themed wedding? "How can this be?" you may ask.

I stumbled upon this wedding theme in a blog and was very intrigued.

The bride and groom used vintage prom dresses for the bridesmaids, an array of pastel colors, and many playful details.

And you know, I think it really works. Hell, I want my wedding to be as unique as this one! It was definitey not 'manilla.'

Obama Circa 1980.

Turns out Obama was pretty cute in college.
Check out more of his photographs here.
What do we think; cuter than John F. Kennedy?

Purple.

Purple is my favorite color and has been my favorite color ever since I was oh, a zygot. The other day I was wearing a purple cardigan at a party and somebody said to me, "Oh, I love the color of your cardigan. I'm so happy purple is in again. It went out of style for awhile." It got me thinking; when the hell did purple go out of style? Where was I? Cause Lord knows I have been wearing purple for awhile now. I understand that jewel-tones are in right now, but com'on.

Speaking of purple, I am dying over this beautiful, purple dress. It just screams, "I'm the life of the party. Now, pass me my amaretto sour!"

Shark Commits Suicide.

A shark 'committed suicide' recently by jumping out of his
tank, onto a waterslide and into a pool. Check out the video here.

This Is My Future Child.

Amazing.

I Just Fainted.

No, seriously.

Word on the street is that my favorite designer, a la Betsey Johnson, will be unveiling an affordable line at either Target or H&M.

CEO Chantal Bacon said, "Ms. Johnson is planning a limited-edition design collaboration with a retailer that will likely launch in the fall."

If you know me, you know I adore Betsey Johnson and her playful frocks (minus her Betseyville stuff). In fact, I am lucky to own one of her pieces myself. Betsey is making a smart move creating this affordable line, particularly during these difficult economic times. At $250-$400 a pop on average, it's just not practical to spend that kind of money (especially now).

I am just hoping that this inspires other top-name designers to follow suit. Target got it right years ago using Isaac Mizrahi and others like Luella Bartley. Check out Betsey's 'survival strategy' here.

Sterotypes Confirmed.

So, basically flamboyant gay men are amazing (just a hunch). Homeboy takes off his shirt around 2:40. I dance around my room like this when nobody is home. Perhaps I should make a YouTube video myself. Ya know, become a STAR!

Yea, No.

You know what, I never thought Brendan Fraser was
hot. Even when you insisted that he was. This
recent picture of him proves my point. K, thanks.

McCain Cannot Promise Palin Endorsement

CNN is reporting that Sen. John McCain said Sunday
he would not necessarily support his former running
mate if she chose to run for president.
Translation: I lost this election because of you, beyotch.
There's no way I would support you for president, don't ya know?!

Sweet, Beautiful Music

I have been listening to a lot of beautiful songs lately about love and heartache (all by amazing and talented women) and wanted to share a few that have been on repeat.

Almost Lover by A Fine Frenzy. Her voice is haunting. Doesn't hurt that she is disarmingly beautiful too!

Chasing Pavements by Adele. She describes her music as "heartbroken soul."

And here is Duffy's Rockferry; one of my favorite artists right now (obviously, because I post about her like crazy).

"There's no sleep on the journey, away from town,
A bag of songs and a heavy heart, won't make me doubt,
I give it all my strength and my mind,
I'll make this decision, win all the fights"

Enjoy this lovely music.

Frosty-Rific

Yesterday I was feeling a little down,
so my boyfriend said, "I'm going to buy you a
Frosty, because that'll make you smile."
And it did. What are some things that
make you smile when you're having a bad
day? Watching Will & Grace always makes me
laugh, regardless of how bad my day was.
What about you?

How Much Is That Doggie In The Window?

My lovely friend and room-mate, Lizzie, has been toying
withthe idea of getting a Yorkshire Terrier sometime in the
future. Now, I'm not usually a 'dog person,' but just look at this
little puddim'! Oh my gosh. My heart swells!

Perky.

Whenever I'm having a bad day, things like this just
perk me right up. Image found on Cute Overload.

What kind of things perk you up on a bad day?

I Love You But...

"I love you but, you pout whenever we pass a reflective surface."

"I love you but, you talk about celebrities like they're your friends."

I always find the cutest things on A Cup of Jo.

Today I found a link to this hilarious blog called "I Love You But..."
The above are 'I love you but's that I know my friends would say about me, ha!

Hypocrisy 101.

The CEOs of Ford, Chrysler, and GM have all recently made their way to Washington D.C. to vet their case as to why taxpayers should bail their failing companies out of bankruptcy. How much, you ask? $25 billion in taxpayers dollars.

Now, the interesting part of this story is that while begging the government and taxpayers to pay for their own failures, all three CEOS flew into D.C. on $36 million worth of luxury aircrafts.

In fact, one of the CEOs private jet trip from Detroit to D.C. cost a whopping $20,000 roundtrip.

Side Note: A rountrip flight from Detroit to D.C. goes for about $288 bucks online.

"Ford CEO Mulally's corporate jet is a perk included for both he and his wife as part of his employment contract along with a $28 million salary last year. Mulally actually lives in Seattle, not Detroit. The company jet takes him home and back on weekends," said this ABC News article.

Call me crazy, but before asking for $25 billion dollars, try cutting your $28 million salary. In fact, fly coach.

Disgusting.

A CNN article reports that Al Qaeda's 'number 2' has a few choice words for President-Elect Barack Obama. I found this article highly disturbing and telling about Al Qaeda's threat level.

In a video, Ayman al-Zawahiri criticizes Obama by saying that a "heavy legacy of failure and crimes awaits him."

Ayman al-Zawahiri calls Obama the "direct opposite of honorable black Americans," like Malcolm X.

"You were born to a Muslim father, but you chose to stand in the ranks of the enemies of the Muslims, and pray the prayer of the Jews, although you claim to be Christian, in order to climb the rungs of leadership in America. And so you promised to back Israel, and you threatened to strike the tribal regions in Pakistan, and to send thousands more troops to Afghanistan, in order for the crimes of the American crusade in it to continue," the message said.

Seems like a lot of hate for a man who isn't even president yet. I hope Obama is ready.

Stepping Stone

Here is one of Duffy's most recent singles, Stepping Stone. I recently had the pleasure of seeing Duffy in concert. Her voice was like pure honey.

"I will never be your stepping stone. Take if all or leave me alone."

I really feel her music. Enjoy.

The Hunks of Hollywood

Brooding.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe I just used the word 'hunk.'
That's so circa 1998 of me. My lovely and adorable friend, Lizzie,
is really into this new actor named Robert Pattinson. He stars
in the new flick Twilight, which comes to theaters next week.

Don't get me wrong, Robert Pattinson is very cute. But, Daniel Craig
is more my cup of (hot English) tea. Daniel Craig stars in the new James
Bond flick, Quantum of Solace out in theaters November 14th.

Eye candy below:

Men in suits make me happy.

Holy Christ, Daniel Craig shirtless.

Happy viewing, ladies. And "questionably straight" gents.
PS: The new Bond girl is pretty good herself!

Wish List Part 529,291,999

This is so modern and my style. Obsessed.

I like the large stone and simple band. Amazing.

I like (again) that the stone itself is large-ish. See it here.

I'm in the market for a delicious, gotta-have-it, amethyst ring. If you know me,
you know that I adore the color purple and oh yea, jewelry. Big shocker, a
woman that likes jewelry! I know, I know...

I'm in love. With amethyst.

STUNNING!

Absolute perfection.

I'm sorry, who said Kate was fat? Yea, NO.

Kate Winslet is an absolute vision on the December cover of Vanity Fair magazine. I have been a big fan of Kate ever since her days in Titanic. The media has always been very critical of Kate's weight and frankly, I have never understood why. Since when is not being a size zero considered 'fat' or 'heavy?'

Katie Winslet is sexy, well-spoken, and intelligent; the perfect representation of women today. As the youngest actress to be nominated for five Oscar nominations, she is on her way to a sixth nomination with Revolutionary Road, a new movie featuring she and Leonardo DiCaprio (heaven)! I love the theme of the movie; challenging the status quo.

Check out Revolutionary Road's new trailor below!

An Open Letter

Dear Barack Obama,

I’d like to introduce myself as one of the hundreds of thousands of ‘youngsters’ who voted for you this past Tuesday. I’m writing today because I need to get something off my chest.

I am counting on you. Please don’t disappoint me.

I hope you know how much faith I have put into you. I rooted you on in the early days, against Hilary Clinton, Chris Dodd and Bill Richardson. I read your book, The Audacity of Hope, and felt….hopeful. I have been accused on voting for you because I’m on ‘the bandwagon.’ I have gotten into tearful debates with my own family over supporting you.

You have promised me over and over that you will never lie to me, even when times are tough as they are now. I am holding you to that promise, Mr. President.

Our country needs a president with integrity and I want more than anything for you to be that president. Please remember during these next four years that many Americans have risked a lot for you, myself included.

Remember that I am counting on you. Please don’t disappoint.

Sincerely,

Veronica

This is HUGE.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again. Obama's win last night means BIG THINGS for
America's image to the world. Don't believe me? These pictures from Time Magazine
speak volumes about the impact of Barack Obama around the globe.

Bhutanese monks watching the race closey.

Hula dancers celebrating Obama's win in Japan.

People reacting to Obama's win in Seoul, South Korean.

Kenya, Obama's family's native country, have
declared today a National Holiday.

Regardless of who you voted for, the world seems to be pleased that
Obama is the next president. And frankly, I have to agree.
Check out more of these powerful photographs here.
One of my favorite spots in DC, U Street, celebrates too! Check it out here.

Safe Sex Revamped

Safe sex is important, no doubt. But, some other countries don't place as much of an emphasis on safe sex as they should. Here are some interesting ways others are spreading the word.

1. Bill and Melinda Gates of all people have donated money to India for a national condom ring tone. Listen here.

2. In Ethiopia, condoms are very unpopular because of the smell of latex. However, coffee is very popular in Ethiopia. So, DKT International has created coffee smelling (and tasting!) condoms. Yeowza!

3. Western Australia has an extremely high HIV rate. Public health nurses have starting places condom canisters under trees. About 3,000 condoms are taken each month.4. Argentina has favored a more morbid (and perhaps realistic) approach; positioning skeletons having sex to emphasize the severity of HIV.

Happy sex'ing! Just make it safe!

Controversial?

The new issue of Italian Vogue has raised some eyebrows,
featuring P. Diddy and his children; naked. I personally think
the cover is lovely. What do you think?
