Angelina Jolie's Washington Post Editorial

In a Washington Post article written by actress Angelina Jolie entitled "Staying to Help Iraq" Jolie reflects on her recent trip to the Middle East.

Jolie argues that the United States must step up their financial and material support in order to not squander the progress that has been made as well as calls upon each presidential candidate to announce a refugee plan.

"It seems to me that now is the moment to address the humanitarian side of this situation. Without the right support, we could miss an opportunity to do some of the good we always stated we intended to do. "

Does anybody care about what Angelina Jolie has to say? Also, does anybody care that Angelina Jolie is also currently pregnant and in such a hostile and controversial area? Discuss.

Armani is "Indifferent" to Wintour!

In case you haven't noticed yet, I have a thing for fashion. Not only are big-shots like Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton arguing like children, but now some of the fashion industry's giants are too.

This is definitlely a cause for concern.

The Telegraph recently published an article detailing a smoldering feud between living legends Anna Wintour and Giorgio Armani.

At a recent press conference to promote a new Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibit, Armani said he couldn't understand why so many people disliked Ms. Wintour and that he was "indifferent" about her.

Oh no he didn't! In a world where fake smiles and stiff formalities are the name of the game, it is rare (and almost unspeakable) that Armani would dare to speak about fashion tycoon, Wintour.

The claws didn't stop there. Armani discussed the lack of support for Italian fashions, citing the four days that Milan fashion shows have to attract international attention, unlike the seven days of the past.

The museum's exhibit, entitled "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy" is scheduled to open in May.

Tina Fey For Clinton!

Enough said.

Ralph Nader Runs for President. Again.

Ralph Nader is entering the presidential race, according to a CNN article.

This is certainly not the first time Nader has decided to enter the race to the White House. In fact, this will be Nader's sixth time running.

Not surprisingly, Clinton and Obama have plenty to say about this new development.

"He thought that there was no difference between Al Gore and George Bush and, eight years later, I think people realize that Ralph did not know what he was talking about," Obama said.

Similarly upset, Clinton also chimed in. "I remember when he ran before. It didn't turn out very well for anybody -- especially our country."

As somebody who is not likely to win the next seat in the White House, what exactly is Nader's motive?

In June 2007, Nader was quoted as saying, "you know the two parties are still converging- they don't even debate the military budget anymore. I really think there needs to be more competition from outside the two parties."

Regardless of your feelings about Ralph Nader, I think we can all agree that Nader is definitely aiming to stir things up. For better or worse.

Huckabee's Welcome Worn Out!

Huckabee is one determined Presidential-hopeful. And when I say "determined" I mean tired and dense.

The race to become the next Republucan presidential nominee is over. Well, almost. Gov. Mitt Romney has recently endorses Sen. John McCain, leaving Huckabee with the odds (very) against him.

A CNN article written by Candy Crowley quotes Huckabee.

"Now, the question is, do they go to the most conservative person, the person who believes in the Human Life Amendment, the person who wants to make sure that we don't raise taxes, who has signed the no-tax pledge?" asked Huckabee.

The GOP has pressured Huckabee to step down. Apparently, he hasn't taken the hint. It's over, Huckabee. Go back to Arkansas.

12 Year-Old Journalist and CEO Impresses

Former President Bill Clinton spoke to George Mason students Monday, Feb. 11th. I was there with my "What's Up Weekend?" co-host, Matt Loffman, to record the event's audio for WGMU.

(Check out my weekly pod-cast for all the latest and greatest Mason info, folks).

While Clinton's speech was certainly impressive, I was most impressed with the 12 year-old journalist and CEO, Brennan Jones, of JPAC Political Blog who I met at the event.

This accomplished 12 year-old shook my hand firmly, introduced himself like a professional and came equipped with a reporter's notebook and a camera. If I overlooked his small stature, I would have mistaken him for any credible professional in the field.

His mother must be really proud!

Crunch Time!

As Tuesday looms closer and closer, it's time to get serious about deciding a candidate for President. A CNN article posted today talks about Obama's big win in Main, Louisiana, Nebraska, Washington, and the Virgin Islands. Sen. Obama currently leads over rival Sen. Clinton 986-924.

In other news, McCain has become the Republican frontrunner, despite lack of support from many states, such as Louisian and Kansas. We can't forget Huckabee, who is currently lagging far behind McCain.

Voting begins in Virginia at 6am on Tuesday and runs until 7pm. Vote!

Fashion Road Kill?

I remember the days when Tommy Hilfiger was synonymous with all-American apparrel. The days of wearing "Tommy Girl" perfume were not that long ago. You had to have the latest pair of Tommy jeans.

Not so anymore.

Where has Tommy gone? The preppy niche that originally defined the Hilfiger brand seemed muddied, as Hilfiger branched out to include more urban clothing. Perhaps it was Tommy Hilfiger's mansion in the Hamptons or WASP persona that didn't translate well to his urban audience? No, that wasn't it.

In a New York Times article entitled, "Tommy's Tumble" Rene Chun references other brands like Timberland and Polo who have also had success in urban customers. "Indeed, the white-bread designer [Tommy] actually began to cater to their culture-specific sartorial taste: The silhouette became larger-than-life, the palette became brighter, and the logo blew up, in some instances so large it covered the entire garment."

So, how did Tommy Hilfiger loose his momentum?

One could speculate for eons why this once-influential designer has disappeared from the main-stream and into the bargain bins at Ross. Perhaps, it's as simple as not keeping up with the trends of today. The over-sized, ribbed sweaters of the 90's do not exactly translate to the needs of shoppers today, nor can cable-knit sweaters carry an entire brand. I think it's time for a reinvention.

We Can't Forget Bill!

During an appearance at the Convent Avenue Baptist Church on commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. on January 20th, Bill channels Dr. King and has "a dream." Somebody get this man a Red Bull! Stat!

America's First Lady?

What better way to start a blog than to dive head-first into some of America's finest big-shots, wannabes, and has-beens; John McCain and his trainwreck of a wife, Cindy McCain! As the election draws closer, I think it's time to take a closer look at the women (and men!) that stand by their presidential-hopeful spouses.

The Times came out with a curious article about Cindy and her less-than-perfect past that I thought was worth noting. John and Cindy have, somehow, emerged as a powerful political couple despite a closet full of skeletons. Let's recap! A former rodeo beauty queen and millionaire's daughter, Cindy met John when she was 25 (note: John was 43) at a cocktail party. John was well into his political career and still married to his first wife when Cindy caught John's eye.

It was in the late 80's when Cindy began stealing perscription painkillers from a charity that she created. It wasn't until 1994 that Cindy fessed up about her sticky fingers and her addiction to painkillers after federal agents began investigating gaps in the charity's records.

I suppose it has been a few years since Cindy has been in hot-water, but I wonder if America is ready for the likes of Cindy McCain in the White House. These days Cindy is actively involed in Operation Smile as well as several other organizations. That's all fine and dandy, just make sure she's not keepin' the books!
